49cm height rec missing

Hi Tara,

By our size chart you fit exactly in the sweet spot of the 52cm.For a more endurance / upright fit I would recommend leaving 4cm of spacers under your stem to allow for adjusting your cockpit height.

Frame size Rider height
52 cm 5’4”-5’6”
54 cm 5’6”-5’9”
56 cm 5’9”-6’0”
58 cm 6’0”-6’2”
61 cm 6’1”-6’4”

Thanks!

BB variations

Happy New Donkey Day!

The parts situation is QUITE tough right now.

For the Sram Force 1 Dub we recommend the White Industries T47 BB / Dub / External cups. King is also good. We haven’t heard of C-Bear.

GXP would also work.

BB30 would work but we avoid it because the spindle length is technically a bit odd and requires internal T47 cups to work on a Donkey. (Doesn’t work on Flaanimal at all).

If Praxis doesn’t like Sram chains we would recommend KMC. They make phenomenal chains!

GRX 2x tire clearance impact on trail donkey

Howdy! The Traildonkey frameset is drivetrain agnostic. 1x and 2x GRX will fit the same tire. We don’t typically use GRX cranksets on our builds because Shimano modified the chain line about 3mm outboard and we prefer a traditional crankset chain line. For this reason we tend to use Praxis or other brand cranksets on our builds.

Smallest chainring SS vs 1x

1x doesn’t have a chainring limitation. The derailleur drops the chain down low and easily clears the stay.

SS you need to run at least a 42 up front and vary the rear cog is to get the ratio you want. Anything smaller in front and you risk hitting the yoke with the chain.

I’m looking to get Flanimal frameset, what hardware are included?

Chris,

If you are building with modern Shimano the front derailleur will have a housing stop and no additional hardware will be needed.

If you are using an older Shimano front mech or a Sram front mech you would need our optional housing stop clamp which we supply at no cost but it must be requested. Make sure you get a front derailleur with a built in clamp mount or order a separate clamp when purchasing a clampless front derailleur. The frame does not have a built in front derailleur mount / clamp.

Sliders, axles, and seatpost collar are included with the frame.

You will need to source everything else including headset, BB, and a headset compression plug in particular. Don’t use a star nut in any carbon steer tube!

Max rotor size front and rear/ image format for decals

Howdy!

1. 160mm is the max rotor size front and rear
2. Yes flat to post mount adapters work front and rear. (160mm)
3. We do not supply graphic or cut files for our bikes. We cut and apply decals here per the options on the product page.
4. For crank arm based non drive side power meters we know that Stages will not clear the chain stay at all. 4iiii do not fit in standard configuration but if you space the crank arm 1mm out it can be made to fit. That is a non standard installation so it isn’t something we do on our builds.
5. Half link chains are great because they allow smaller adjustment increments for setting the chain tension. You may use a standard chain if you like but it would take more attention to set up precisely the way you want.

Switching to a 1x?

Dylan,

You would need:

1. GRX 812 rear derailleur
2. 11-42 rear cassette.
3. If wanting to use the left shifter for a dropper lever you would need the GRX dropper lever. The shifter can’t be modified.
4. Depending on the crankset you have you may just need a 1x direct mount ring (Praxis) or perhaps a WolfTooth 1x ring for adapting the 2x GRX crankset to 1x (which we have not done here).

Cheers,

Rodeo

Ask for compatibility and info

Flaanimal uses a road crankset Q-Factor and there is nothing unique about the design that would make it incompatible with any standard road crankset 1x or 2x.

The Q-Factor is 100% compatible with Sram mullet builds and we have built quite a few of them. Just use Something like a Force AXS 1x crank or a Praxis Zayante 1x crank, or anything similar.

You need an INTERNAL bearing bottom bracket, and any T47 internal bearing BB will work. Match the bearing size with your spindle diameter (Dub, 30mm, M30, 24mm, etc)

Standover height

The 49cm Flaanimal 5.0 shows 74.7cm standover with 650b x 2.1 tires. With a 48mm tire you would probably drop to about 74cm. If you were to drop to the 48cm frame (4.1 not 5.0) you would go down to 72cm. This is all an estimate because we do not have any 48cm frames built up but it should be close.
