Spring is springing. Flowers are blooming. Ed’s bike is absolutely popping.

Destined for the passes and trails of Crested Butte, this build is a study in details that make the bike just right. @sramroad Red shifters + @srammtb XX1 Transmission drivetrain give the bike the ratios that it needs to cover smooth gravel and steep climbs into thin air. @vittoriatires Mezcal 2.1 have the fast rolling tread, good side knob traction, and the durability to put up with anything from champagne gravel, to scree fields, to the occasional aspen roots. And of course, the tires are mounted to our hand laced, ultra strong 3.0X wheels.

The beautifully formed @fsa_road K-Force Carbon bar has the best ergonomics in the business, along with the compliance of carbon. It’s all routed through our user configurable Rodeo Quite Integrated EC44 headset, which finally solves the need for elegant routing through the headset if you aren’t using a proprietary fully integrated stem and headset system. The Force power meter measures the watts, @ron_kingcage titanium cages hold the bottles, and @sellerepente saddle keep ye olde bum happy.

But let’s not forget the custom paint to order Hunter Orange @cerakote layout. Ed requested the layout that we used for Flaanimal 5, with the script logo and OG metal head badge, so of course we obliged. It’s a custom bike, so we’ll build it how you like it!

There is no such thing as an inexpensive custom bike, but that doesn’t mean the cost of custom has to go all the way to 11. Here’s how we worked with Bill to keep this beautiful build out of the stratosphere:

1. All component sizes can be adjusted to your spec on any build we do. Bar width, stem length, stem spacers, crank length, and seatpost setback are all easy and free to tweak.

2. Tire sizes can be requested from 34mm all the way up to 2.2, often without impacting cost. Well order any tire you request, by request. Getting the right tire the first time is far less expensive than getting tires wrong and needing to buy something different right away.

3. Go mechanical! Electronic shifting is great, but mechanical is also phenomenal these days. You can get any gear range you need with mechanical, so function is never sacrificed. You’ll also save a lot of clams!

4. We’ve secured a stock of Nex Gen carbon wheels that are deep, wide, strong, and designed by legend Paul Lew. They feature a star ratchet hub as well, all at the same price of the pre built aluminum wheels that we sometimes spec. These are by request only! They aren’t as light as our 3.0X, but they’re a great value.

5. Accessorize with color! Chainring, pulleys, hanger, rotors, bolts, and bar tape are hundreds (or thousands) less than custom paint can cost, and you still end up with a bike that’s personalized to you that much more.

Black and white. Like a tuxedo made of carbon, all in a single monocoque mold, because the end product is stronger, better tuned, and longer lasting.

No production TD4.0 or 4.2 has failed, period. Ridden and raced the world over from Tour Divide, to all of the biggest and smallest gravel (and even mountain bike) races, to pulling kids around the neighborhood in a trailer. A Traildonkey is a tool, meant to be used and maximally useful. Tools should last.
