BB and headset

Thanks for the order John!

For the headset you need an Inset 7: https://chrisking.com/products/headset-inset-7

For the bottom bracket you need a Threadfit with inset bearings. Spindle will vary per the crank you run. 24mm or 30mm spindle: https://chrisking.com/products/headset-inset-7 . So the model number needs to end with “I” to have inset bearings.

Flaanimal 5.0 Delivery

We don’t have any specific revisions to the schedule. If there are any modifications they will come into focus later in the month as production wraps up. We’ve had a close eye on production and it has been ongoing since the April 15 post. It has continued to be very labor intensive especially in regards getting details and new production methods right, but our team has been diligently solving any new challenges as they emerge. Keep an eye out in the third week of June for further updates.

12mm conversion kit how-to

Stephen,

To remove the 15mm insert look under the bottom of the drive side fork leg where the insert is. There is a small set bolt there that needs to be backed out enough to allow the insert to release and pop out. When inserting the 12mm part be sure to align the small groove in the part with the axis of the set bolt so that when you re-tighten the set bolt it properly engages the bolt and holds it in place.

Flaanimal 4.1 Availability

Mario,

Our frames are rated for up to 250lb riders and allow for another 25lbs of gear on top of that.

We have no plans to produce any more 4.1 frames. 5.0 has replaced it and has functionally improved what 4.1 had to offer. We know that some customers may have an aversion to carbon but we make design decisions based on engineering and performance requirements, not strict material categories.

Thanks!

Flaanimal 5 vs Traildonkey 3.1

Traildonkey is about 2lbs lighter on average.

Flaanimal fits larger tires (but do you need larger tires?)

Flaanimal sets up single speed more natively although it is possible to do on either frame.

Flaanimal costs less than Traildonkey.

Both bikes are built around very similar goals and use cases and overlap about 95% on function.

Toe overlap

Dave,

I would be very surprised if you have toe overlap on our 54cm because it was a high priority to eliminate it when designing our frames. 650b would indeed help, but even at 700c we don’t have reports of overlap.

One thing you could do is measure the front-center of your current bike with overlap to compare with our front-center measurement. Front center is the measurement from the center of the BB to the center of the front axle. You can then use that distance to calculate your toe position from the bb center and the radius of the 650b tire you are looking at to see if the two would touch at all. We can compare the FC of your existing frame to the FC of our frame. If our distance is greater that is how much more toe clearance you will have.

Flaanimal 5.0 – Drop Bars

So glad you are loving your 2.0!

Some riders shorten their stem lengths when going to flat bar and others do not. Seems that people who shorten tend to do 10mm to 20mm shorter. There doesn’t seem to be one “right” way to do it. The Flaanimal will respond well to flat bars though. Geometry did not change from 4.X to 5.0 and we have a lot of happy flat bar owners out there from 4.X.

Recommended height – 48 cm Flaanimal

Thanks for asking, Tina. That info must have gotten lost in a recent website revision.

We recommend a 48cm for folks roughly 5’0″ to 5’2″.

You won’t have a ton of standover clearance with your 28.5″ inseam length on our 48cm: standover height measured at the center of the top tube is approximately 28″ with 650b wheels and a typical 42mm tire. With the bike on 700 x 40mm, standover height is approximately 29″. If you measured your inseam in bare feet, I suggest you remeasure in shoes to double check.

For framesets shipping is about $150

For complete bikes we can quote per-bike but plan around $250-$400
