First introduced in 2021, Flaanimal Titanium is built on the extremely successful and versatile Flaanimal Steel series of bikes, first released in 2017. The design of the bike has been proven across its entire use spectrum, from road, to gravel, to rugged and ultra endurance bikepacking, with a notable win at Tour Divide in 2021.

FL6 Ti – Features overview

What makes the Flaanimal 6 Titanium truly unique

Home grown pedigree

For over a decade we’ve ridden into the mountains and across countries searching for irrefutable inspiration to design and build bikes with. If you ride enough, and listen closely enough to what the terrain and nature are telling you, the bikes will perform when it matters.

Head Tube

Our new hourglass shaped EC44 head tube is contoured for elegance, and sets the tone for our overall design philosophy on this frameset. We won’t promise that it’s aero, but If looks more aero, we’re ok with that.

  • 44mm press-in headset cups
  • CNC machined Titanium
  • Integrated routing Support

If building with Spork 4, no large upper headset cup is needed if you wish to route through the steer tube because Spork 4 features a D-shaped steer tube, allowing low profile ZS44 headsets to be used in combination with fully internal routing*.

Sculpted

Flaanimal 6 Ti features a distinctive silhouette, one that stands out from the crowd of Titanium bikes, which are often difficult to tell apart. Its custom profiled top tube tapers elegantly as it approaches the seat tube, then wrapping around the seat tube and blending effortlessly into the seat stays. We accomplish this by use of 3d printing, expert welding, and hand finishing.

  • Full-Length Tapered top tube
  • Blended seat tube cluster
  • Shaped seat stays

The Keg BB

Flaanimal 6 Ti features The Keg, an improved T47 threaded bottom bracket shell. Once past the standard-sized bearing seat, the diameter of the BB shell increases, which creates space for internal routing to stay internal through the BB shell area – while not interfering with the crankset spindle.

A bowtie shaped pass-through between downtube and seat tube makes routing dropper post housing easier than it has ever been.

No Yoke?

Flaanimal 5 Ti featured a CNC machined, dropped yoke design that allows for generous tire clearance and complete drivetrain choice. We wanted to go one better for FL6 Ti; to create a more classically-shaped chainstay cluster. Through the use of careful tube shaping, 3d printing, and expert hand finishing we created a new No-Yoke design that’s so elegant, it will mostly go unnoticed.

LockJaw 2

The Flaanimal 5 slider design has served us well for years, but with the advent of UDH derailleurs, it was time to create an improved sliding dropout system that solved for new derailleur engineering while shedding mass and complexity. Lock Jaw 2 builds on slider concepts first pioneered on TD4, and refines them for the current drivetrain era.

LockJaw 2 also gives Flaanimal 6 Ti a native singlespeed drivetrain capability. No external chain tensioners or eccentric bottom brackets are required.

Last but not least, LockJaw 2 allows for ride tuning, should you care to experiment. In the full forward position the dropout sliders will give the bike a shorter wheelbase and more nimble feel. In the full back position the bike will feel more stable and confidence inspiring at speed.

Even if you never intend to touch or adjust your LockJaw sliders, they’re there if and when you get curious. They also help potentially future proof the frameset against emerging derailleur hangar or brake mounting standards.

Routing Choice

Integrated (fully hidden) routing isn’t for everyone. Flaanimal 6 Ti supports three routing configurations so you can build the bike to suit your priorities,  whether that be elegance, serviceability, travel, tradition, or anything else.

  • Fully integrated housing enters the bars at the shifter, passes through the stem, through the headset, and through the frame to the brakes and derailleurs.
  • Semi-integrated housing enters the headset at the base of the stem, and then runs fully internally. This makes a bike a bit easier to pack for travel while remaining tidy and elegant.
  • Standard routing enters the frame at the downtube and is the most classic routing option. For those who travel option or don’t want to mess with headset routing, this is the best choice.

Tire Clearance

Flaanimal 5 Ti was no slouch in the tire clearance department, and could just barely fit a 700×2.1. Because we removed the dropped yoke, redesigned the sliders, and re-shaped the stays for FL6 Ti, the frame significantly increased that clearance – especially in the full-back LockJaw 2 position. The frame now comfortably fits many 2.25″ tires with room for the elements (like mud or clay), and of course depending on tire casing and rim width you may be able to push it past that to 2.4″.
