Unicorn: TD3 / 58cm / Arctic Sunrise / Sram 1×13

We build plenty of bikes with standard drivetrains from Sram, Shimano, and Campagnolo, but sometimes we like to build something more interesting, creative, and functional. We are Rodeo Labs after all, and there’s a lot of fun to be had by cooking off-menu.

This beautiful Arctic Sunrise TD3.1 is built with a terrific of Easton, DT Swiss, Repente, Praxis, and Sram, but the real magic of the build comes from the Ratio Technology 13 speed conversion kit that allows the Apex 1 shifter to be converted from 11 to 13 speeds. Instead of being limited to a 10-42 x 11 speed cassette, this bike now has a Campagnolo Ekar 13 speed 9-42 cassette. That cassette has a wider range than the newest Sram XPLOR drivetrain, and it has closer shifting ratios thanks to its advantage of 13 speeds over XPLOR’s 12 speed. Moreover, this unique solution is significantly less expensive than anything that can be built using XPLOR.

This bike would be perfect for gravel riding, gravel racing, road riding (with slick tires), and it would be a hoot for mild singletrack when shod with larger tires. The gear ratios we built it with will allow for healthy top speeds when roads are fast, but it will also climb well thanks to that excellent 38-42 climbing gear ratio.
